1 Arundhati Roy
Her first script showed glimpses of the outrageous talent that would later show up in her Booker Prize-winning novel. Brash and blessed with a dark sense of humour, Arundhati Roy wrote the screenplay and acted out the part of Radha, the feisty architecture student. She would go on to win the Booker prize in 1997 for her novel, The God of Small Things. She continues to break down barriers in her role as an activist, social commentator and occasional writer.
2 Shah Rukh Khan
They never considered him talented enough or big enough, so he played a bit role titled simply as 'Senior'. It would be the smallest role the King Khan would play. His first ever role in a full-fledged film, the boy known as Shahrukh would go on to become one of the largest and most successful stars of Indian cinema.
3 Arjun Raina
The namesake Annie of the film, Arjun Raina was among the close-knit band of theatre artists who came together to make this telefilm. He is now a successful theatre artist, recording and staging plays all over the world.
4 Divya Seth
As the prickly roommate, 'Lakes', Divya Seth is irascible. She raves and rants about the hippy culture of her roommate, Radha. The talented actress has since gone on to become one of Indian television's most recognised faces, appearing in serials like Abhimaan, Daraar and Sarrkar. She also made a recent appearance in Zoya Akhtar's 'Dil Dhadakne Do'.
5 Himani Shivpuri
In one of her early roles, Himani Shivpuri plays a bar dancer and the 'fiance' of Annie in the film. She would go on to be part of some iconic superhits Hum Aapke Hain Kaun!, Kucch Kucch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham among others. Her talent brought her back to television with the epic saga 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi...'
6 Roshan Seth

The most accomplished and respected actor in the film was Roshan Seth. Most popular for his role as Jawaharlal Nehru in Attenborough's 'Gandhi', Seth would become one of India's most popular exports to Hollywood and British cinema. The tough, stentorian principal Yamdoot is a role not many remember, but the face remains as memorable as any other for Indian audiences.
7 Rituraj
The role of Radha's flirty boyfriend and Annie's best friend went to Rituraj. Then a budding actor in the Delhi University theatre circuit, Rituraj does a brilliant job as the flirty, confident hipster trying to get his friend to complete his degree. Since then, Rituraj has gone on to find success on the television screen with series like Banegi Apni Baat, Aahat and Adalat. He currently plays the role of a kabaddi coach in Diya Aur Baati Hum.
