The Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey (2022), which had a poor opening weekend, dropped further on its first Monday in theatres, earning only Rs1.60 crore nett, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

After making a mere Rs13.90 crore nett in its first weekend, Jersey needed to sustain well on Monday. Instead, the film has slipped further and now stands no chance of recovering its investment. According to trade sources, the film was made on a budget of around Rs80 crore, which now appears to be well out of its range.

Jersey is the official Hindi remake of the successful Telugu film of the same name released in 2019. The original and the remake both were directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri.

Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the Yash-starrer KGF: Chapter 2 (2022) continues to make a great run at the box office. The Prashanth Neel directorial venture recorded an impressive second Monday with a collection of Rs7.75 crore nett, taking its total in this language to a huge Rs322.75 crore.

The record for highest collection by a film dubbed in Hindi rests with SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) with a mammoth Rs510.56 crore. KGF: Chapter 2 is not likely to challenge that record. But it is now within striking distance of the record set by Dangal (2016) for highest grossing Hindi film with Rs374.53 crore. Will it? Wait and watch.
