Actress Taapsee Pannu is currently in Scotland filming for Sujoy Ghosh’s next Badla (2019) with Amitabh Bachchan. The two previously worked together on the National Award-winning film Pink (2016) where Bachchan plays a determined lawyer prepared to gain justice for three women living by themselves in Delhi.

Pannu’s next film is Anubhav Sinha’s Mulk where she herself plays a lawyer, Aarti Mohammed née Malhotra, defending Rishi Kapoor’s character, Murad Ali Mohammed. Incidentally, Aarti defends her father-in-law when he is accused by association of his son, who is found to be a terrorist.

The film will tackle the issues of religious discrimination in India for minorities head on. For the intense courtroom scenes, the actress revealed that her Badla co-star helped her during the preparation of her role. As they had previously shared the screen in Pink, the actress was able to get some pointers from the veteran actor himself.

“On celluloid, Bachchan sir’s character and role in Pink and his portrayal of a stern yet convincing lawyer for me was the best point of reference. Since I have worked with him on the film in 2016, I had a good point of reference of how he executed the role. While, of course, we are diverse as actors and the kind of role I essay and situations of my role are much different, there were still nuances of the role which I picked up,” Pannu said.

The actress believes that Bachchan enacted one of the best portrayals of a lawyer onscreen in Pink. Besides her upcoming film Mulk, Pannu has had two releases so far this year — Dil Juunglee and Soorma.
