Actor Varun Dhawan was born on April 24, 1987 in Mumbai to popular film director David Dhawan. He completed Business Management from Nottingham Trent University, UK and started off as an Assistant Director, assisting his father. He also worked as assistant director to Karan Johar on My Name Is Khan (2010). Dhawan made his acting debut with Karan Johar's romantic comedy Student of the Year (2013). The film launched two other newcomers along with him- Sidharth Malhotra and director Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt. The film did very well at the box office and successfully launched the careers of the three newcomers in the industry. Dhawan was nominated for a Filmfare Best Male Debut award as well. In 2014, Dhawan had two releases- Main Tera Hero and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. The first film was directed by his father David Dhawan and is a remake of a Telugu film. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, the film stars Ileana D'Cruz, and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles along with Varun. In the Karan Johar production Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Dhawan was paired with Alia Bhatt once again. Both films did moderate business at the box office but Dhawan’s acting skills were much appreciated. He then acted in Sriram Raghavan’s crime thriller Badlapur (2015), which was a departure from the breezy romantic films that he had done so far. The film is the story of a man whose life changes overnight when his wife and son are murdered. He spends the next 15 years of his life trying to avenge their murder and in the process transforms himself completely. The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vinay Pathak, Yami Gautam, Divya Dutta and Radhika Apte. Despite being an intense and dark film, Dhawan held his own and his performance was applauded by the critics. He has several upcoming projects and is certainly a star to watch out for!
