Purab Kohli

Purab Kohli is a well-known Hindi film actor who is best known for his roles in the TV series Hip Hip Hurray (1998) and the hit film Rock On!! (2008). Born on 23 February 1979 to an hotelier father and corporate-trainer mother, young Purab aspired to be a pilot. However, he left his training midway to study science. This path, too, didn’t hold his interest for long and he changed his subject again to commerce and yet again to arts to study economics, psychology and literature. However, something entirely different was in store for him.

Kohli got an opportunity to play a role in Zee’s television show Hip Hip Hurray (1998), a show about a group of teenagers. His good looks and charismatic persona got him the job of a video jockey (VJ) on Channel [V]. Later, he hosted a travel show Gone India.

In 2010, Kohli he anchored Zee TV’s popular music talent hunt Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar. He has also endorsed brands like Colgate, Pizza Hut, Compaq Presario, Amaron Batteries and Castrol on television.

Kohli was first seen on the silver screen in Bus Yun Hi (2003) opposite Nandita Das. He was also cast in Supari (2003), Vastu Shastra (2004) and 13th Floor (2005). But what brought him into the limelight was his performance in the film My Brother… Nikhil (2005). The film opened to positive reviews and Kohli's performance grabbed the attention of some of Hindi cinema's leading directors.

Mahesh Bhatt cast him in Woh Lamhe (2006) and Awarapan (2007), in which he played the villain. Both films gave him the opportunity to prove himself as an actor. In 2008, Kohli's role in Rock On!! (2008) got him a Special Jury Mention at the 2009 Filmfare awards.

Kohli delivered an impressive performance in I Am (2011), directed by Onir, who had made My Brother... Nikhil. The talented actor then played the role of a villager in Jal (2014). He recently appeared in the blockbuster Airlift (2016) along with Akshay Kumar.
