Parmeet Sethi Biography
Born : 14 October 1961, in Punjab, India
He was first seen in the TV series Tujh Pe Dil Qurban (1995) and shows like Samandar (1995) and Kurukshetra (1995). That same year, he also got his big break in films with Aditya Chopra’s landmark blockbuster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995). Sethi played the arrogant and dislikable Kuljeet Singh to perfection. His ability to combine the alpha male image of his character with a comedic naiveté was truly commendable. The tremendous success of the film gave Sethi the ideal platform to launch his career. The next year, he starred alongside Ajay Devgn and Madhoo in Harry Baweja’s Diljale (1996). The film opened well at the box office and critics praised both Baweja’s direction and Sethi’s performance as Captain Ranveer Singh.
However, Sethi’s career as a lead actor in films never quite took off. While he continued to appear in commercially successful films, he increasingly played a supporting role in films like Hero Hindustani (1998), Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999) and Laawaris (1999).
Sethi found greater success on television when he starred in Zee TV’s popular serial Dastaan. His role as the Dubai-based businessman Karan Kapoor propelled him to TV stardom, following which he consistently appeared in shows like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin (2003) and Maayka (2007). Along with his wife, Archana Puran Singh, he also participated in the dance competition Nach Baliye (2005).
In 2009, after a small role in Bad Luck Govind (2009), Sethi took a break from acting and turned his attention to directing. He made his directorial debut under the Yash Raj Films banner with Badmaash Company (2010). Sethi wrote the script and Aditya Chopra, who had first launched him as an actor, produced the film. It received mixed reviews and barely rattled the box office but Sethi did get nominated for a Zee Cine Award for Best Debutante Director.
After this, Sethi stepped away from the world of film and television entirely. However, Sethi returned after a seven year hiatus with Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), a film that was critically well appreciated. He also went on to perform in Wedding Pullav (2015) which released later in the year.
Parmeet Sethi married film and television actor Archana Puran Singh on 30 June, 1992. The couple have two sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan.
