Kapil Sharma is a comedian, television comedy show host, actor and producer.

His father, the late Jeetendra Kumar Punj, was a head constable in the Punjab police while his mother, Janak Rani, is a homemaker. He lost his father to cancer in 2004.

Kapil Sharma’s brother Ashok Kumar Sharma is also in the police force while his sister is Pooja Pawan Devgan. He married long-time girlfriend Ginni Chatrath in December 2018.

Sharma was a stand-up comedian in the Punjabi show Hasde Hasande Ravo on MH One channel. He won the television reality show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007 and became a household name. He was the winner of six seasons of the reality show Comedy Circus on Sony TV.

Kapil Sharma has hosted several TV shows and events. Some of these are the comedy show Chhote Miyan (2008), the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 (2013), the 60th Filmfare awards (2015), the 22nd Star Screen awards (2016), the 61st Filmfare awards (2016) and the 62nd Filmfare awards (2017).

Sharma has also been a contestant on shows like Ustaadon Ka Ustaad, Hans Baliye and Comedy Circus. Under his banner K9 Productions, he launched his own show, Comedy Nights With Kapil on the Colors TV channel in 2013. He was awarded Entertainer of the Year at the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards. He then launched the stand-up comedy show, The Kapil Sharma Show, on Sony Entertainment Television.

In 2015, Sharma made his debut in Hindi cinema with Abbas Mustan’s romantic comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. His next venture as producer and actor was Rajiev Dhingra’s period comedy movie Firangi (2017). In 2018, he co-produced the Punjabi film Son Of Manjeet Singh starring Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol, Japji Khaira and BN Sharma.

Kapil Sharma has won several awards, including three Indian Television Academy awards, the Big Star Entertainment award, the Star Guild award and the Sony Guild Film award. The Election Commission appointed him a brand ambassador for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Later, he was named brand ambassador for the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan by prime minister Narendra Modi.
