A popular Indian film actress and model, Ileana D’Cruz came from a middle class family with no background in the film industry. Yet, she has emerged as one of the most popular names in Indian cinema, especially when it comes to Hindi and Telugu films.

Ileana D’Cruz was born on 1 November, 1987 in Mumbai. She was brought up in Mumbai and Goa. Her family relocated to Goa when the she was just 10 years old. She completed her schooling in Goa and her graduation from Mumbai University.

D’Cruz’s mother encouraged her modelling and acting aspirations. She started her career as a model, was a part of many photo-shoots and fashion shows as well. She was even the face of many products like Fair & Lovely, Electrolux and Emami Talc.

However, she had to struggle to bag a role in a film and then maintain it. Her debut was Telugu romantic film Devadasu (2006). Initially, when she could not cope up with the intense pressure on the sets, she wanted to quit. This was when her mother motivated her to continue the film, which turned out to be a major commercial success. The talented actress won many accolades for her performance. In the same year, she was next seen in the gangster film Pokiri (2006) in which she played the role of an aerobics teacher harassed by a corrupt police officer. This turned out to be a huge commercial success as well.

After witnessing major success in the South, D’Cruz made her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s Barfi (2012). The film not only got her positive reviews from critics and masses, but also attention from other known filmmakers. The film was a major commercial success. It won her Filmfare Award, the Zee Cine Award, the Times of India Film Award, and the Zee Cine Award for Best Debut, amongst many others.

After this, the young actress was cast opposite Shahid Kapoor in Rajkumar Santoshi’s action-comedy film Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (2013). Spotting her comic talent, she was offered Main Tera Hero (2014) opposite Varun Dhawan and Nargis Fakri by director David Dhawan. After winning hearts in the South, the young and talented actress is all geared up to make her mark in Bollywood as well.
