Sue McKinley is a British filmmaker who has been down on luck. But when she finds the diary of her grandfather, a jailer during the British regime of India, she learns about the Indian independence movement and five revolutionaries who made it possible. This inspires her to make a documentary and she travels to India, where she takes the help of her friend Sonia in order to make her vision come true. She casts Sonia's friends, DJ, Karan, Aslam and Sukhi, to play the parts of the revolutionaries, as well as Laxman Pandey, a fundamentalist political activist who is at odds with the group. However, through the course of filming, they begin to realise how much their lives parallel the characters they are required to portray.
