Manthan

Set against the backdrop of Operation Flood, which transformed India from a milk deficient nation into the world's largest milk producer, Manthan traces the journey to set up a dairy cooperative in a village in Gujarat. Dr. Rao (Girish Karnad), a veterinary doctor, comes to a village in Gujarat with Deshmukh (Mohan Agashe) and Chandravarkar (Anant Nag). Together they plan to convince the villagers to set up a dairy collective much against the wishes of the local dairy owner Mishra (Amrish Puri). In doing so, they must fight against the caste politics and local resistance to the dairy.<br /> Directed by Shyam Benegal, the film was awarded the National award for Best film amongst several prestigious awards.<br />
