The renowned Indian classical musician Pandit Darbar has a beautiful daughter, Nandini, who is the apple of everyone's eye. When Pandit Darbar becomes the mentor to Sameer, the charismatic and happy go lucky youth, he stays with the Darbar family, which means Nandini has to give her room to Sameer. Although the two incessantly bicker at first, they fall in love soon. But when they are professing their love to each other, Pandit Darbar overhears and is furious. Sameer is kicked out of the house and Nandini's marriage is arranged to the hard working and sincere Vanraj who is already in love with her. As Salman pines for his love and writes her countless letters, none of which reach Nandini, she agrees to the marriage. But Nandini is miserable, and makes this obvious, by denying any affection to her new husband. When Vanraj discovers that she is in love with someone else, his love for her allows him to make a sacrifice and he sets off to Italy to reunite Nandini with Sameer.
