PS Vinothraj’s Koozhangal to open 39th Indian Film Festival in Puducherry

PS Vinothraj’s award-winning Tamil film Koozhangal (2021), also known by its international title Pebbles, will be the opening film at the 39th Indian Film Festival in Puducherry.
As reported by the online portal News18.com, Puducherry chief minister N Rangaswamy will felicitate Vinothraj with a cash prize of one lakh ruprees at the opening ceremony as well.
Revanth Korukonda’s Telugu fllm Natyam (2021), Ranjith Sankar’s Malayalam film Sunny (2021), Rajdeep Paul and Sarmistha Maiti’s Bengali film Kalkokkho (2022), and Shankar Sri Kumar’s Hindi film Alpha Beta Gamma (2021) are amongst the other films that will be screened at the festival which will take place from 9 - 13 September.
The widely felicitated film, Koozhangal premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam in 2021, where it won the prestigious Tiger Award. Produced by filmmaker Vignesh Shivn and actress Nayanthara, the film was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars.
The film focuses on the story of Ganapathy and his young son Chellapandi. The father-son duo, struck by poverty, wander in search of work and a house to live in. Although they do not share a heartfelt bond, they are forced to stay together by fate.
The annual film festival, organised by the Puducherry government, has been running for 38 years. According to India Posts English website, the screenings are taking place at the Alliance Française Art Theater in Suipran Veedhi and is free for the public.
The festival is being jointly organised by Puducherry Press and Publicity Department, Navadarshan Film Corporation and Alliance Française.
