Well-known Marathi film actress Priya Bapat and Rahul Bhat have been cast together for the upcoming Hindi movie Chakki (2022). The film marks the feature film directorial debut of Satish Mundaw, who has earlier helmed short films.

Chakki is produced by Bharat Ninderwal under his banner Ninderwal Productions Private Limited. Umesh Shukla, director of films like OMG: Oh My God (2012) and 102 Not Out (2019), is presenting the movie.

Throwing light on the film’s subject, a statement from the makers said, “Chakki, the name that signifies an endless loop, is about struggles of a common man in a corrupt system.”

The first poster of the movie features Bhat’s character scared of an electricity bill that amounts to a whopping Rs1 lakh 60 thousand. The subject of unusually high electricity bill has been tried earlier in Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar’s Marathi movie Ek Cup Chya (2009) and the Shahid Kapoor- and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018)

Speaking about the film, Munda said in a statement, “I am glad that the whole team that came on board for every department is so talented. All the technicians have worked on few of the much admired films and their association with Chakki was only possible because of the script that they all liked a lot. It’s a small film that mirrors our ecosystem and is relevant now, more than ever.”

Chakki is due to be released in theatres on 7 October.
