Disney+ Hotstar has unveiled its latest series Karm Yuddh (2022), starring Paoli Dam, Satish Kaushik, and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles. Set in Kolkata, the show traces family politics and a power grab that takes place for the control of the Roy Group of Industries.

The trailer begins with a voiceover that informs us that when it comes to family, one is left alone and must fight for oneself. This is followed by a scene of violence where people are shooting at each other. Police investigates the massacre while people question Satish Kaushik's character, enquiring about an alleged feud between members of the Roy family.

We are introduced to Indrani Roy (Dam) and her stepson, Abhimanyu Roy. In another scene, there seems to be student politics at work, where the group’s leader talks about getting justice.

Ashutosh Rana seems to play another member of the Roy family, who is also plotting to get a place in the empire. But we are told by Dam's Indrani, “It’s men who fight the wars but it’s the queens who win it."

As the desperation for power intensifies, Rana’s character says, “I want them to die,” indicating the violence that will be the outcome of the power games.

The thriller drama seems to have several elements that come in with the different characters being revealed. The trailer constantly shifts from scenes shot in corporate offices, to the domestic space of the home and violent incidents in the outside world. It remains to be seen how the various strands are tied up together in the show.

Directed by Ravi Adhikari, the eight-part series will stream on Disney+ Hotstar from 30 September. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you are keen on watching the series.
