Nandita Das’s Zwigato features Kapil Sharma as a food delivery rider for an app called Zwigato. It delves into his daily struggle of trying to make ends meet and how it takes a toll on him and his family.

Set during the pandemic, the film follows Sharma as he navigates his deliveries trying to reach locations and get good ratings to earn incentives. But it isn’t enough to run their household and his wife, played by Shahana Goswami, also has to take up a job. While Sharma is reluctant for her to join the workforce, she seems quite keen to step out of the house.

At one point, when he is out on delivery, Sharma sees a sign that says: Woh majdoor hai, issi liye majboor hai. [He's a labourer, that's why he's helpless.] To which he replies, “Ya phir woh majboor hai, issi liye majdoor hai. [Or maybe he's helpless, that's why he's a labourer.]

Sharma seems grounded in his first dramatic role. The comedian is known for his popular talk show with celebrities and has previously acted in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (2015) and Firangi (2017). Goswmani also impresses as his wife.

Written by Das and Samir Patil, the Hindi film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last week. It will also be screened at the Busan International Film Festival next month for its Asian premiere.

Presented by Applause Entertainment and Nandita Das Initiatives, the drama does not yet have an Indian release date.
