Ayushmann Khurrana has made a career out of playing small north Indian town characters that are embarrassed about certain things about themselves and hence they live their lives secretly. But each time, the actor has embarked upon a different subject with this theme. He has continued the same with Doctor G (2022).

The film is the story of a medical student Uday Gupta, played by Khurrana, who is forced to study gynaecology, even though he wanted to become an orthopaedic doctor. As he reluctantly starts studying, he is faced with moments that are hilarious for the audience but serious for him (another trait of a Khurrana-starrer).

Uday comes across the strict Dr Nandini (Shefali Shah) who wants him to feel like a doctor instead of a ‘male doctor.’ In the meanwhile, he also falls in love with a fellow student Dr Fatima, played by Rakul Preet Singh.

Filmmaker Anubhuti Kashyap has taken up a challenging subject as her feature film debut. The trailer indicates that the film presents a character’s serious predicament in a hilarious manner. It doesn’t cross the line, at least in the trailer. But it won’t be surprising if the promo offends a few.

Khurrana has played such humorous characters before. But the subject ensures that it doesn’t bother you here. Shah once again appears reliable in a no-nonsense role. Singh gets limited footage in the promo. The film stars Sheeba Chaddha in the role of Khurrana’s mother.

The trailer also features composer Amit Trivedi's quirky songs.

Produced by Vineet Jain, Doctor G is due to be released in theatres on 14 October.
