The upcoming Punjabi film Criminal (2022), directed by first-time filmmaker Garinder Sidhu, and starring Neeru Bajwa, Dheeraj Kumar, and Prince Kanwaljit Singh, will mark the debut production of Gippy Grewal’s new production house, Big Daddy Films.

The intriguing and chilling trailer of the film was released earlier this month. The trailer featured a gang of five criminals who escape from police custody and take shelter in an apartment where Kumar and Bajwa reside. Although the couple is inside the house, they manage to remain hidden from the wanted men. Trapped inside the house with armed and dangerous men, Kumar and Bajwa try to get out of the situation.

As a run up to the release of the film in theatres on 23 September, the song ‘HIgh Jatt’ has been released. Sung by G Khan and Hashmat Sultana, the lyrics and composition are by Happy Raikoti. The music is by Avvy Sra.

The song features the wanted men on the one side and the trapped couple on the other. There are several gruesome images of violence and brutality which foregrounds the menacing nature of the men. Prince Kanwaljit Singh’s character seems to have permanently blood-soaked hands. We see people being shot, lying sliced open, and the criminals being on the run. The police are after them but they manage to evade capture.

Meanwhile, along with this, we see the predicament of the couple trapped in the house, who try to escape but seem unsuccessful. The song is underwhelming and sounds like any run-of-the-mill auto-tuned Punjabi number. Neither the voices nor the music make any impact. One hopes that the film will deliver with its unique storyline and interesting trailer.

Check out the song below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
