Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022), starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan, has set the box office afire on opening day, 9 September.

According to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com, the fantasy adventure film has collected around Rs35-36 crore nett in all its versions, making it the highest opening day in history on a non-holiday for original Hindi content.

Boosted by good advance booking numbers, the Ayan Mukerji film has also done well in the Telugu markets, especially in the Nizam and Andhra territories, looking to outperform previous Hindi films that did well there including Dangal (2016) and Dhoom 3 (2013).

Aided by the holiday for Ganesh visarjan, it has also performed well in Mumbai. The 3D screenings in metros like Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore are also packed. There might be a drop on Saturday, 10 Saturday, but it is still a holiday weekend with more shows booked till Sunday as well.

The film’s overseas collections are also positive and are said to be in the $8 - 10 million range for the weekend. However, the adventure saga, made at a production cost of around Rs400 crore, will have a tough time recovering its massive budget.

Produced by Star Studios and Dharma Productions, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva is playing in 2D, 3D and Imax 3D in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, with blockbuster filmmaker SS Rajamouli presenting the southern languages.

The ensemble cast also includes Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.
