The Great Indian Kitchen, Barah by Barah among 10 films shortlisted for FIPRESCI-India Grand Prix


There are two other Malayalam-language movies on the list: Martin Prakkat's crime thriller Nayattu and Don Palathara's 85-minute single-shot film Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam.

The list of top 10 films of 2021 that are in the running for the FIPRESCI-India Grand Prix has been announced. The winner of the grand prize will be named soon. FIPRESCI [Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique] is the French acronym for the International Federation of Film Critics.

There are three Malayalam films on the list. Jeo Baby's The Great Indian Kitchen, starring Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu, follows a journey of a married woman who struggles to be the submissive wife that her husband and his family expect her to be. 

Martin Prakkat's crime thriller Nayattu, starring Kunchacko Boban, Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan, revolves around three police officers who are on the run after an outbreak against them due to the unlawful arrest and torture of a civilian.

Don Palathara's 85-minute single-shot film Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam (Joyful Mystery) is centred on a couple in Kerala that is on their way to a doctor's clinic to confirm a suspected pregnancy.

Nikhil Mahajan's family drama Godavari (2021) starring Jitendra Joshi and Gaurav Madan's Barah By Barah (2021) are the only Marathi and Hindi films on the list.
