Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey enters Netflix's global top 10 films list at number 7

The sports drama was premiered on the streaming platform on 20 May after its theatrical release on 22 April.

Less than a week after its digital premiere, Jersey (2022), starring Shahid Kapoor, has broken into Netflix's global top 10 films list at number seven with 4.4 million hours viewed.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and produced by Allu Aravind, the Hindi remake of the director's Telugu hit Jersey (2019), co-stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur.

The film is also trending at number two in top 10 films in India; it has also made it to the top 10 films in 11 other countries, including the UAE, Bangladesh and Qatar, for the week 16–22 May.

Speaking about the film’s success on Netflix, Shahid Kapoor said, “Jersey is one of the films that is very close to my heart because it says something that has stayed with me. In [my character] Arjun Talwar’s words: ‘Zindagi lambi nahi badi honi chahiye’. I am excited to see that people are loving the film worldwide with Netflix and it gives me immense joy to see that the film is trending globally. We want it to reach as wide as it can and Netflix is the perfect platform for the same. I am loving it!”

His co-star Thakur, who plays Arjun’s wife Vidya, added, “I am really happy that the film is trending in India, in multiple countries worldwide, and receiving all the love from audiences around the world. In today's world, it is such an amazing thing that with one click our work reaches fans across the globe and that's what we as actors want. The film strikes a chord with your heart and what better platform than Netflix for more audiences to watch the film with their loved ones.’’

Besides Jersey, Gangubai Kathiawadi (at number four), RRR (Hindi) (at number six), and Raw (Hindi) (at number 10) have also figured prominently on the top 10 non-English films list worldwide.
