The trailer for Prithviraj (2022), starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar, has got a lot of appreciation and generated huge anticipation for the film. Of course, some of the anticipation is also owing to the fact that the film is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the man behind the cult television show Chanakya, made in 1991. A large section of the audience still remembers the show which was aired on the National channel of the state-run broadcaster Doordarshan.

That this is a Chandraprakash Dwivedi film also explains why a lot of detailing has gone into Prithviraj, made on the life of the twelfth century warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan. To add authenticity to the film, 50,000 costumes and 500 different types of turbans were created for the film from scratch.

Confirming this, Dwivedi said, “Detailing was key to making a film like Prithviraj. All these turbans are authentic replicas of the kinds of turbans worn by kings, the masses, and people of various professions at that time. We had an expert on turban styling on the set who would oversee the process of these turbans being worn by our actors.”

Dwivedi also shared that a costume designer was flown in from Rajasthan with his team. “I’m glad I had a producer like Aditya Chopra who believed in my vision for the film and backed me completely to tell a story like this in the grandest way possible,” he said.

Akshay Kumar, who has been part of many big films over the decades, was all praise to see the amount of work that went into the making of the film. “Rarely do films take this much effort and embark upon such monumental tasks," the veteran star said. "Every element of our film has been dealt with utmost sincerity, authenticity and reverence. We have paid attention to the minutest details while making the film because we wanted this to be the most glorious retelling of Samrat Prithviraj’s life on the big screen.”

Prithviraj is set to be released on 3 June in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood.
