Jalsa trailer: Vidya Balan's plucky journalist goes up against powerful forces

Suresh Triveni's second film has been produced by Vikram Malhotra's Abundantia Entertainment and Bhushan Kumar's T-Series.

Suresh Triveni's Jalsa is a complete, and delightful, contrast from his fantastic debut Tumhari Sulu(2017).

The filmmaker's latest project appears to be a dark, gripping investigative procedural.

The trailer begins on a dramatic note as a young girl is mowed down in an accident. Even as her mother Rukhsana (Shefali Shah) copes with the tragedy, a cover-up takes place. Meanwhile, Vidya Balan's fierce journalist is set on exposing the system. When a junior (Vidhatri Bandi) begins to look into the hit-and-run case, she uncovers more secrets than she can handle. With the truth hitting close to home, she is faced with the ethical dilemma about whether to reveal it or bury it.

Simple, and filled with red herrings to keep you engrossed, the trailer is fascinating. It promises a film packed with intrigue, strong performances and a complex and emotional story. It also brings to the fore the entanglements between the powers that be and the media, which result in deception.

Jalsa has a strong ensemble cast led by Vidya Balan and Shah who look to be in their top form. Vidya earned acclaim for her performance in Triveni's maiden feature Tumhari Sulu. In addition, Manav Kaul makes a surprise appearance and Vidhatri Bandi as the young journalist on the hunt for a story looks compelling.

Produced by Abundantia Entertainment and T-Series, Jalsa will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 18 March 2022.
