The trailer for Varun Tej’s long delayed boxing drama Ghani (2022), directed by Kiran Korrapati, sees the actor play a boxer for the first time in his career. It is also the first time he has undergone drastic physical transformation to build the desired look for his character.

Varun Tej plays the titular Ghani. The trailer opens with a shot of Ghani’s mother (Nadiya) asking him to promise her he will never take up boxing in his life. Cut to a few shots later, we hear Ghani saying that if his mother has to find out he has been boxing behind her back, it should be on the day he becomes national champion.

The rest of the trailer gives a glimpse of the antagonist played by Naveen Chandra. It looks like the film will pit Varun against Naveen in the ring.

Ghani has been bankrolled by Allu Bobby and Sidhu Mudda. The film marks the Telugu debut of Saiee Manjrekar and also stars Suniel Shetty and Upendra.

Talking about Ghani, Varun had said in a media interaction over a year ago that he would work with a physical trainer from Mumbai to shed weight. “My boxing trainer will be flown in from Los Angeles," he had said. "I have played different characters so far, but this is the first time I’ll be required to change myself physically for a character.”
