Soubin Shahir's cinematic choices have always been intriguing, and his presence in Sidharth Bharathan's latest project is even more so. Titled Djinn, the film features the actor as a man struggling with ghosts and demons, perhaps of the mind, even as the world around him comes to terms with it. The film has been produced by Sudheer VK and Manu Maliyaveettill.
The teaser for the film begins with Soubin Shahir's quiet neighbour bringing something to a home. Just as quickly, he acquires the personality of a deceased relative, shocking everyone around. This, we learn, is not the first nor the last time. Smartly referencing the word djinn (ghost), the teaser hints at something deeper. The visuals of Shahir's character sitting alone brooding over it makes one wonder if the film is about a more real mental malaise.
Girish Gangadharan has shot the film while Prashanth Pillai has scored the music. Djinn is written by Rajesh Gopinadhan, who had previously written the Dulquer Salmaan- and Sai Pallavi-starrer Kali (2016). Djinn also marks the final act for the late KPAC Lalitha, who died on 22 February 2022.
Shahir had shared an image of the veteran actress on the sets of the film after her passing.
While the makers have not yet announced a release date for the film, do tell us whether you are keen to see it after watching the trailer below.
