Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, RRR, CBI 5: The Brain among global top 10 non-English films on Netflix

The Kartik Aaryan-starrer has also earned a mammoth Rs180 crore at the Indian box office.

Three Indian films have found a place in Netflix’s global top 10 non-English feature films this week. 

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, starring Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu, has grabbed the number one spot on the list. It has been streamed for over 12 million hours. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the horror-comedy has also worked wonders at the Indian box office,  amassing over Rs180 crore. 

Sharing his reaction to the news, Kartik said in a statement, “It’s been absolutely surreal to see the support from my fans, and so exciting to witness the appreciation pouring in from audiences all around the world. Our film is trending as the #1 Non-English film globally and in 19 countries since its release on Netflix. BB2 continues to get so much love in cinemas even today and it feels even more special when this love becomes universal and people around the world are connecting to it through the internet and breaking the language barrier.”

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is the second film in the franchise after Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), which was directed by Priyadarshan. Starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja, the 2007 film was a psychological drama. 

The producer of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Bhushan Kumar, said, “My heart is full of gratitude as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 becomes the #1 non-English film globally on Netflix. It’s wonderful to see audiences in 190 countries enjoying the film on Netflix, and we hope to continue entertaining more and more fans in different parts of the world!” 

After being at the top of the list, SS Rajamouli’s RRR (2022) is now at number seven. The Ram Charan and Jr NTR-starrer has been in this list for six weeks now and has been streamed for 2.9 million hours so far. 

The Malayalam film CBI 5: The Brain (2022) is the third Indian film on the list at number eight. Directed by K Madhu, the Mammootty-starrer has been streamed for over 1.7 million hours.
