Anthony Russo hints at The Gray Man spin-off centred on Dhanush’s character

Dhanush plays an assassin named Avik San in the Russo Brothers’ Hollywood action film The Gray Man, which stars Ryan Gosling.

During the recent press conference of the film in Mumbai, the Indian actor said that the directors – Joe Russo and Anthony Russo – gave a backstory to the character and this proved to be helpful for him to prepare. 

“The Russos kind of gave me a backstory of what he can be and where he can be from. That was very helpful. I remember telling them [that] this itself is a story; we have a film there,” said Dhanush.

To this, Anthony hinted that there might well be a spin-off of this character in the future. “We hope that we get to tell more stories with this character. We like to keep our options open on where we can go with the character,” he said. 

When Dhanush was asked the reason for being associated with this film, he said, “It’s the name of the Russos; it’s brand Russo. And [after] the character they described of Avik San, it was easy. It’s a no-brainer. You just have to use the opportunity that was gifted to you and then make the most of it.” 

The Indian actor also shared that his entire family has been fans of the films made by the Russo Brothers. “If you have kids at home, you will know the Russos, right?” said Dhanush. “My kids and we all are big fans. We have gone to the theatres and watched the true meaning of a larger-than-life experience. It’s amazing to have had the opportunity to work with them.” 

The Gray Man was released today on Netflix.
