Kangana Ranaut doesn’t fail to surprise with her choice of roles. After films such as Thalaivii (2021) and the action-packed Dhaakad (2020), the actress will be seen next as former prime minister Indira Gandhi in Emergency.

The film sees the actress return to the director's chair after Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. She has also written the upcoming film.

In the teaser,  we see Ranaut as Indira Gandhi in Washington DC in 1971. When she is asked if the president of the United States can refer to her as ‘ma’am’ to which she responds, “America ke president ko keh dena ke mujhe mere daftar mein sab madam nahi, sir kehke bulaate hai [Tell the American president that in my office everyone called me sir, not madam].”

It won’t be an over-exaggeration to say that the way Ranaut utters the dialogue and the overall feel of the teaser give one goosebumps. She seems to have aced the character with her body language and style of speech.

The film is based on the state of emergency declared across India by Indira Gandhi for 21 months between 1975 and 1977.

Emergency has gone on the floors. The screenplay and dialogues have been written by Ritesh Shah.
