After the wait of almost two years, Mahesh Manjrekar's period drama Panghrun is finally hitting the theatres on 4 February.

The film which marks the filmmaker's third collaboration with Zee Studios after Kaksparsh (2012) and Natsamrat (2016) is set in the pre-independence era and tells a story of a girl who is widowed at a young age and is made to marry a man who is her father's age.

Panghrun, which has been screened at national and international film festivals, stars Gauri Ingawale and Amol Bawdekar.

Postponement of Hindi films has opened window of opportunity for Marathi cinema, but for how long?

An excited Manjrekar said in a statement, "We have been waiting for the release of the film for a long time. I am excited that finally the audience will get to see our film Panghrun from 4 February."

The film's soundtrack, which has been composed by Hitesh Modak and mostly comprises semi-classical tunes and verses by the saints Savata Mali and Tukaram, has received a lot of praise.

"I am very happy that the film's music is being appreciated by the audience," the filmmaker said. "Every artiste has done justice to their roles. Finally, Marathi movies are slowly being released in theatres and Marathi audiences are going to the cinemas to watch movies. It is their love that encourages us to make good films and I'm confident that the audience will love Panghrun just as much as my other films."

Speaking about the project, Zee Studios' business head Mangesh Kulkarni said, "With this film, the audience will get to experience a unique love story. Mahesh Manjrekar has brought a musical treasure to our audience. Manjrekar is a director who always brings a variety of films to the audience.  He excels in handling unique and complicated subjects; this is another such film."

Panghrun, which also stars Rohit Phalke, Pravin Tarde, Sulekha Talwalkar and Vidyadhar Joshi, has been adapted from a story by BB Borkar.
