In the trailer for the second season of the MX Player original series Bhaukaal, actor Mohit Raina as senior superintendent of police Naveen Sikhera pledges to end the lawlessness in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, wreaked by the heirs of gangster Shaukeen, whom he had hunted down and killed in the first season.

Based on the accounts of Indian Police Service officer Navniet Sekera, the series, helmed by Jatin Wagle, shows how the braveheart cop puts an end to the saga of heinous crimes unleashed by the Dedha brothers.

Beginning with glimpses from the first season, depicting how Sikhera gave Shaukeen a coward's death, the trailer introduces the Dedha brothers, who are spreading terror across the region. Reprising her role from the first season, Bidita Bag declares that she wishes to return Hussainpur to the heirs of Shaukeen and hence the criminal brothers vow to seek revenge on Sikhera.

With increasing reports of killings and abductions, Sikhera faces strong criticism for being unable to detain the criminals and protect the populace. However, with his calm confidence, Sikhera assures the press that he will achieve success in his mission of bringing security to the region.

Filled with visuals of violence, the trailer depicts the rivalry between the police and the criminals, without revealing much about the nexus of power politics or the corruption in the judicial system. The trailer also gives out the spoiler that after days of struggling to nab the perpetrators of crime, Sikehra and his team eventually capture the Dedha brothers on a single day.

Speaking of his role in the series, Raina said, “Since my role is inspired by a real-life 'Singham', I wanted to go the extra mile to do justice to my character. We never realize the sacrifices that these men in khaki make for us. Whether it’s working planned shifts or being called in to duty for emergency responses in all-hands-on-deck situations, there are so many times when law-enforcement officers are called away from their families and forced to miss holidays, birthdays, kids’ games, school events and more.”

For Raina, playing the character is a small way of expressing gratitude to the officers who put everything else on hold to do their duty.

According to him, Bhaukaal is not just about solving crimes or eradicating gangs from a city. It’s about restoring people’s faith in the law and ensuring that justice prevails. “After Season 1, fans wanted more from us," he said. "So, we are here with Bhaukaal 2 which has more thrill, suspense, cliffhangers and excitement.”

Also starring Siddhanth Kapoor, Pradeep Nagar, Gulki Joshi, Ajay Chaudhary, Rashmi Rajput and the late Major Bikramjeet Kanwarpal, Bhaukaal (Season 2) will be streamed on MX Player from 20 January. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the series.
