Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty will feature in his first web-series when Bestseller is premiered next week on Amazon Prime Video. He plays the role of an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) who is investigating a criminal case.

Chakraborty, however, does not like to call this his “OTT debut”. At the launch of the trailer for the show, when the host said that, the actor remarked, “You said it’s my debut. I couldn’t understand how come my debut is happening now after all these years. Maybe my face will look differently [in my first OTT show]?”

Asked about the experience of working in the digital medium, Chakraborty said, “I don’t understand digital and all that. I just want to act. I am a director’s actor. I follow whatever the director tells me. I get into my character and do it; maybe good, maybe bad. I don’t understand digital and this platform and that platform. I only stand on my platform and do my job.”

Bestseller is the story of a novelist (Arjan Bajwa) who is struggling to write his next book. He comes across Shruti Haasan’s character, who works in a coffee shop, and decides to tell her story.

Going down memory lane, Chakraborty said, “I am more than 370 films old now. I used to do four shifts earlier. The dialogues and scenes used to be the same because that is what the fans wanted to see: dance, fight and damdaar [powerful] dialogues. These days I do roles that I like, else I don’t. I am excited for this show. I enjoyed each and every moment of it.”

The actor also touched upon how crucial it was in his heyday for films to succeed at the box office. “No matter how well you perform, if the film flops, it has no value,” he said. “I have done over 370 films. Of these, there are 200 that I can’t watch myself! But I have worked with all my heart even in those 200 films. Whether a film becomes a hit or a flop is in the hands of god.”

Directed by Mukul Abhyankar, Bestseller will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video from 18 February.
