Randeep Hooda will headline the upcoming Netflix series CAT, a revenge drama created by Balwinder Singh Janjua.

The show marks the actor’s return to Netflix after the Chris Hemsworth-starrer Extraction (2020).

Produced by Movie Tunnel Productions, in association with Jelly Bean Entertainment, CAT has been directed by showrunner Balwinder and co-directed by Rupinder Chahal and Anutej Singh. Balwinder and Chahal have also written the series with Anil Rodhan and Jimmy Singh.

Hooda plays an undercover spy in the crime thriller, which is set against the backdrop of the Punjab hinterland. An innocent man, his character is thrown into a deep, drug trafficking conspiracy between gang lords, cops and political powers, according to a release by the streaming platform.

The show’s monochrome poster is centred on Hooda’s character, who has donned a turban and has a sombre expression. The actor is seen with a wound on his cheek and a gun and bullets is featured ominously on the side.

Speaking about the series, Hooda said, “Working with Netflix is always a pleasure. I had a tremendous time during Extraction and the love it got me from around the world was phenomenal. CAT again has all the elements to appeal to a global audience. It has given me an opportunity to explore new facets as an actor in a simple but intriguing script. I can’t wait to see the audience reaction to the series.”

Later this year, Hooda is expected to be seen in the web-series Inspector Avinash and Tera Kya Hoga Lovely, a social comedy with Ileana D'Cruz.

Balwinder, who wrote the films Mubarakan (2017) and Saand Ki Aankh (2019), is also working with Hooda on Tera Kya Hoga Lovely as director. Having grown up during a tumultuous period and being a witness to the surge in drug trafficking in the early 2000s, Balwinder has always wanted to bring this period to life.

The filmmaker said, “With the pace at which our industry is releasing content, it’s very easy to be lost in the herd, but with the industry giant like Netflix backing my passion for creating a series with a subject so close to my heart, I feel truly blessed and lucky. And having the opportunity to work with an exceptional artiste like Randeep Hooda is the cherry on top.”
