Producer Manish Mundra had revealed his plans of turning director back in January 2020. Earlier this month, he revealed that his first film's title was Siya (2022).

The makers said that the film is based on crimes against women in rural areas. The trailer of the movie makes it clear that the film will be dealing with the subject in a hard-hitting manner.

However, it doesn’t give out much about the basic plot and is just a glimpse into the disturbing world in the north Indian village of Devganj, Uttar Pradesh.
Pooja Pandey, who plays the titular character as young village girl Siya, makes her film debut in the film. She becomes a victim of a violent sexual assault after she is targeted by the young men in the village. Afterwards, she struggles to get justice. She is helped by Vineet Kumar Singh’s character Mahender, a lawyer working in Delhi.

The most striking feature about the trailer are the visuals that promise the film to be a no-holds-barred approach in dealing with the subject. It is brave of Mundra to take up this subject for his debut feature. If the movie is not as enigmatic as the trailer, it has a chance of being an acclaimed affair at the festivals.

Pandey appears like a seasoned actress in the role of Siya. Despite limited presence, Singh is promising in the role of a lawyer.

Siya is due to be released in theatres on 16 September. Watch the trailer and let us know if you would be keen to see the film.
