The teaser for Pravin Tarde’s Dharmaveer, a biopic of the late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe, showed a glimpse of the party founder Bal Thackeray in a long shot. The song ‘Gurupurnima’ is themed on the special bond Dighe shared with Thackeray.
As the title of the track suggests, the festival of Gurupurnima, where people honour their teachers, features prominently. On this occasion, an awestruck Dighe (Prasad Oak) pays his respects to Thackeray (Makarand Padhye) and carries out all the rituals with attention to detail.
Thackeray is a bit upset at Dighe at the start of the song and takes a jibe at his beard along with those of Eknath Shinde (Kshitish Date) and others. But by the end of the ritual, the senior leader is touched by Dighe’s affection and respect for him. Later, Shinde and others pay their respects to Dighe since the latter is their guru.
Oak leaves no stone unturned when portraying his respect towards Thackeray. But Padhye doesn’t appear convincing as the late politician either in terms of looks or demeanour.
‘Gurupurnima’ is anchored by Manish Rajgire’s powerful and moving vocals. Sangeeta Barve’s lyrics and composer duo Avinash-Vishwajeet’s music also play their part in making this an overwhelming number.
Produced by Sahil Motion Arts and Zee Studios and distributed by Zee Studios, Dharmaveer will be released on 13 May.
