Director-turned-actor Kaushik Ganguly and Aparajita Adhya will pair up for the first time in Jiit Chakraborty’s upcoming family drama Kothamrito.

Biswanath Basu and Kanchan Mullick will also play crucial roles in the film.

Ganguly plays Sanatan, a man who loses the ability to speak after an accident. However, his wife Sulekha (Adhya) speaks enough for both of them. Kothamrito will highlight the importance of listening for the purpose of understanding.

According to a report in Anandabazar Patrika, a Bengali newspaper, Adhya agreed to be part of the film as she did not want to miss the opportunity to work with Ganguly. “An actor of his calibre can lend a different dimension to a film. Here one of the lead characters cannot talk, while the other talks a little too much. The film will show how language is not a barrier in a relationship,” said Adhya.

Ganguly was intrigued about having to express himself without speaking. “The prospect of acting without speaking for two hours appealed to me the most,” he added.

The film will go on the floors on 23 April.
