Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes, which won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, will have a special screening at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Set in Delhi, Sen’s documentary looks at brothers who tend to injured black kites, which are increasingly getting wounded in the polluted capital.

Meanwhile, Pakistani filmmaker Saim Sadiq's first film Joyland will compete in Un Certain Regard. His short film Darling became the first Pakistani film to be premiered at the 76th Venice Film Festival in 2019; it won the award for Best Short Film.

Michel Hazanavicius’s Z will open the historic edition. New anticipated features by filmmakers David Cronenberg, Claire Denis, Hirokazu Kore-eda, the Dardenne brothers, and Park Chan-wook will compete for the Palme d'Or. The Tom Cruise-starrer Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler as the American crooner and Tom Hanks will be seen out of competition.

Interestingly, the singer’s granddaughter Riley Keough makes her directorial debut in Un Certain Regard with Gina Gammell in Beast.

More titles are due to be announced in the coming weeks. The French festival will be held physically from 17 to 28 May.
