Anshuman Jha has bagged the Best Actor–Critics award at the India International Film Festival of Boston (IIFFB) for his portrayal of a serial killer in the film Midnight Delhi.
The film, which is centred on a serial killer who steals surgical blades and attacks women with them, was hailed as India's answer to Quentin Tarantino by the jury in Singapore, where it bagged the Best Editor award at the South Asian International Film Festival.
Written and helmed by Rakesh Rawat, the film's release in India has been stalled by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), popularly known as the censor board, for over a year.
Speaking about Jha's performance, director Rawat said, "As an artiste, he is unique. He is dancing to a rare tune. I am so glad he agreed to be a part of my debut film and has given such nuance to this character.”
Jha's next project is the action-packed Lakadbaggha, which will go the floors in December. Jha was supposed to make his directorial debut with a black comedy called Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, but the film's shoot has been postponed indefinitely owing to the pandemic.
