Punjabi actor and singer Gippy Grewal has announced the release date for his film based on the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom, Widow Colony.

The film, for which shooting began this year, will be in cinemas on 3 June 2022. The actor shared the news with his fans on Twitter.

Written and directed by Smeep Kang, a frequent collaborator with Grewal, Widow Colony is produced by Grewal and co-produced by Bhana LA and Vinod Aswal.

The grim poster mentions 1984 as the year when countless women lost their husbands in the attacks on the Sikh community and their lives and dreams were shattered in the carnage that ensued.

The title, Widow Colony, refers to the Tilak Vihar locality in New Delhi, which is also known as Widow Colony. Delhi was one of the worst affected cities during the killings, and this is where the government provided shelter to families, specifically to women who had lost their husbands. The film will tell their story.
