Music composer and musician Pyarelal Sharma, who, with the late Laxmikant Kudalkar, made up the renowned music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, will return to performing on stage in the US after 25 long years.

The 81-year-old composer and musician will be joined by 20 top musicians and singers, including Amit Kumar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sudesh Bhonsle, Sadhana Sargam, Priyanka Mitra and Mohammed Salamat.

The live US musical concerts aim to bring timeless, memorable tracks from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s to fans. The troupe will tour across the US and Canada with the concerts being staged in six cities in May and June 2022. The tour has been organized by Prria Haider Productions and Splendid Global Entertainment Inc, owned by Prria Haider and Mehboob Haider.

Speaking about his return to live concerts, the veteran composer said, “I have got to tour across the world, but performing in the US along with the best musicians after 25 years is making me nostalgic. But I don’t grieve Laxmiji’s absence because, even today, I feel he is right here with me. Music is the only way that heals us and brings us together, especially in tough times like this. I am ecstatic to bring some euphoria and memories to my audience through our music. We would be performing most of the classics for our audience.”

Organizer Mehboob Haider said the idea for the concert tour came from wanting to make new memories while cherishing old ones, and healing the tough times of isolation during the pandemic years.

“We decided to bring back a retro concert which we all were missing,” Haider said. “There is a certain excitement about attending a live concert which is even more relevant in today’s masked post-pandemic era and we can’t be happier bringing back the living legend Pyarelalji who had given us glorious music.”

He added that Prria Haider Productions and Splendid Global Entertainment Inc also plan to take this tour to other countries. The event is conceptualized and directed by Alpa Mehta of Map Worldwide. Tickets for the tour will be available from early 2022.

The venues for the concerts are expected to be at full capacity and the organizers will observe all protocols keeping the COVID-19 situation at the time.

Next month, a new biography of the music composers, titled Music by Laxmikant Pyarelal, is being published by Rupa Publications. The book, written by journalist Rajiv Vijaykar, details their journey from young musicians to award-winning composers.
