Abhishek Banerjee and Barkha Singh are pairing up to star in Raaj Shaandilyaa’s The Great Weddings Of Munnes which will be premiered on Voot Select next year.

Created and produced by Shaandilyaa, the writer-turned-filmmaker makes his OTT debut with this project. Directed by Sunil Subramani, the web-series is about ‘a middle-class man’s desperate attempts to marry the woman of his dreams, leading to a series of hilarious misadventures, according to a press release from the makers.

Speaking about his digital debut, Shaandilyaa said, “With so many crime and thriller shows being made, I felt there should be a comedy show mounted as big as a 'Bollywood' movie. The team at Jio Studios backed my vision and the collaboration has been great so far. Our aim is to change the trend and give the audience an entertaining ride.”

Banerjee, who was earlier seen as a lawyer in Rashmi Rocket (2021), said, “I always look for roles that challenge me as an actor and I was looking for a good comedy script and this is a really funny story. When the makers approached me to play Munnes and narrated the story to me, I was mindblown. We have begun shooting for the show in Rohtak and I am looking forward to it.”

Actress Barkha Singh, who is known for the web-series Please Find Attached and Engineering Girls, added, “I am thrilled to be a part of this laugh riot. My character is so interesting and something I can’t wait to play. I’m also looking forward to sharing screen space with Abhishek for the first time. It promises to be fun.”

The series will be mostly filmed in the cities of Mathura, Agra, Hyderabad and Jaipur. The shooting has begun in Rohtak, Haryana, and the series will make its debut online next year.
