The makers of the upcoming political-drama web-series Maharani have revealed some important details about the characters being played by Amit Sial and Sohum Shah.
The story of Maharani revolves around the life of Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi) and how it changes overnight when her husband, Bihar chief minister Bheema Bharti (Shah), names her his successor.
Bheema hails from a so-called lower caste and has experienced oppression since childhood. He joins politics in the hope of bringing equality to society. Quickly rising through the ranks of the Sattarudh Janshakti Party, he eventually takes Bihar by storm and becomes chief minister.
Sial's Navin Kumar is a civil engineer who entered politics when his idol, Jayaprakash Narayan, asked him to. He always desired to become the next chief minister of Bihar. But Bheema's surprise decision brings his life and political aspirations to a halt.
Directed by Karan Sharma and created by Subhash Kapoor, the political drama is loosely based on the life of Bihar's first and so far only woman chief minister Rabri Devi, wife of Rashtriya Janata Dal founder Lalu Prasad. The web-series will be released on the SonyLIV platform.
