Karni Sena threatens to sabotage production of Akshay Kumar-led Prithviraj

The outfit has demanded that the makers change the film's title and seek the Rajput community's stamp of approval before releasing it.

The Karni Sena has threatened to sabotage the making of Chandra Prakash Dwivedi's Prithviraj unless its demands are met. In a post on social media, Karni Sena's youth wing president Surjit Singh Rathore wrote that there ought to be a prior screening for the Rajput community before releasing the film. He also demanded that the film's title be changed. The organization had gained infamy for its vociferous protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat (2018).

In his post, Rathore wrote that while he respected lead actor Akshay Kumar, the production house, Yash Raj Films, should also respect the name of Prithviraj Chauhan and, therefore, change the project's title to Veer Yoddha Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan. He added that failure to comply with his demands would result in the same harrowing ordeal endured by Bhansali.

Prithviraj, which also stars Manushi Chhillar. The film is based on the story of the 12th century Chauhan dynasty ruler and will borrow from the epic poem Prithviraj Raso as well as other works. The film was announced in September 2019. The film, as of now, is scheduled to be released by 5 November 2021
