The trailer for Saumen Sur’s film Ei Ami Renu was launched in the presence of the director, leading lady Sohini Sarkar and Alivia Sarkar, who plays a crucial character in it.

Based on Samaresh Majumdar’s novel of the same title, the film also features Kaushik Ganguly, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Soham Chakraborty and Anindya Chatterjee.

A period drama set in the 1980s, Ei Ami Renu brings Sohini and Soham together as a pair for the first time. Sohini plays Renu, the wife of a government officer essayed by Soham. “I have spoken to many people born in the 1980s and most of them said they enjoyed reading the novel," said Sohini. "They are all quite excited for the film to release.”

The actress said the film presents the story of a generation that was not dependent on mobile phones and the internet. “I believe the take on romance with a different kind of equation, and use of letters, will come across as refreshing for the audience,” she remarked.

“I am happy to get positive reactions on the trailer and hoping that the film will also be loved by the audience," director Sur said. He added that it has become more important for audiences to watch films in theatres because of the crisis engendered by the pandemic-induced lockdown.

Alivia plays Renu's close friend Jhuma in the film and she said she was happy to be present at the trailer launch as the shooting process involved a lot of difficulties. “We worked really hard for the film and I believe this beautiful love story deserves theatre screenings," Alivia said. "Those who have read the novel will love the film, despite the changes we have made for its cinematic adaptation.”

Ei Ami Renu will hit the screens on 9 April.
