Twitter Inc has blocked the account of Punjabi singer Jazzy B, along with three others, on a request from the government of India.

The Canadian Punjabi singer has been frequently showing his support for the continuing farmers’ agitation in the country and tweeting about it.

His account has been geo-blocked, which means it can be accessed by people outside India.

Standing in solidarity with the farmers and refusing to be bogged down by this move, Jazzy B shared an image of his account being blocked on Instagram with a post saying, “I will always stand for the rights of my people.”

The news portal NDTV.com posted a statement by Twitter that said, 'When we receive a valid legal request, we review it under both the Twitter rules and local law. If the content violates Twitter's rules, the content will be removed from the service. If it is determined to be illegal in a particular jurisdiction, but not in violation of the Twitter rules, we may withhold access to the content in India only.

'In all cases, we notify the account holder directly so they are aware that we have received a legal order pertaining to the account. We notify the user(s) by sending a message to the email address associated with the account(s), if available,' the statement added.

In February this year, around 250 Twitter accounts were blocked for several hours after a demand was made by the government. Twitter later unblocked most of them and has since been facing threats of action by the government.
