The riots that broke out in 1984 in the wake of prime minister Indira Gandhi's assassination continue to live on in infamy, influencing writers, artists and filmmakers. Ranjan Chandel's Grahan, based on Satya Vyas's novel Chauraasi, is one such work.

The explosive and intense trailer for the web-series, which stars Zoya Hussain, Pavan Malhotra and Wamiqa Gabbi, begins with a scene depicting Mrs Gandhi's assassination. Amrita Singh (Zoya) is a straight-laced superintendent of police who is put in charge of a special investigation team set up to reopen the case of the 1984 riots in Bokaro, then in Madhya Pradesh and now in Chhattisgarh. As she digs deeper into the past, she is shocked to learn that one perpetrator is someone known to her whom she would have never pegged as an aggressor — her own father (Malhotra).

Ranjan Chandel, who directed Bamfaad (2020), has helmed this web-series. With Malhotra playing the intimidating but mysterious Gursevak aka Rishi Ranjan, the ensemble is in good hands. Zoya makes an impact in the trailer as the daughter caught between her duty of unravelling the truth and her love for her father.

The stylistic and action-packed trailer is promising. The series will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar's OTT platform from 24 June. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch Grahan.
