Actress-turned-Trinamool Congress member of Parliament Nusrat Jahan has claimed that her marriage with businessman Nikhil Jain is invalid, according to a report in The Times of India newspaper.

Nusrat Jahan had been married under Turkish regulations in 2019. After months of rumours of their separation, she has come out with a statement that the inter-faith marriage was not valid under India's Special Marriage Act and so the question of a divorce does not arise.

The actress further claimed that her husband had been accessing her bank accounts illegally even after their separation.

Without naming Jain, she said, “The one who claims to be ‘rich’ and ‘used by me’ has been taking money from my account by accessing my bank accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd hours of the night, even post-separation.”

She said she had taken the issue up with the bank authorities and would also be filing a police complaint shortly.

According to Nusrat, the separation happened long back but she had wanted to keep it private. A news report on the India Today magazine's website said Jain had confirmed being separated since November last year. He has filed for an annulment in Kolkata.
