A model and independent songwriter has accused nine persons, including some well-known people from the film industry, in a formal complaint of rape and sexual harassment over a period of six years from 2013 to 2019.
A first information report (FIR 335 of 2021) detailing her charges under sections 376 (rape) and 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code was filed at the Bandra police station in Mumbai on 26 May.
Among those named in the complaint are former actor Krishan Kumar of T-Series, actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani, Kwan talent management company founder Anirban Blah, photographer Colston Julian, Aha CEO Ajit Thakur, producer Vishnu Induri and Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamat. The others named are Sheel Gupta and Gurujyot Singh.
Speaking to the Bombay Times entertainment supplement of The Times of India newspaper, the woman said, “These incidents took place over a span of six years from 2013 to 2019. I have named 11 people, but the police have registered an FIR against only nine of them, saying they can’t register a complaint about incidents that have taken place outside Mumbai.”
She said she met deputy commissioner of police (zone X) Maheshwar Reddy on 1 April and thought she would be able to register a complaint which would be converted into an FIR immediately, "but it happened only recently".
The photographer Julian has already denied the charge. He wrote on Instagram, “It has come to my notice that a social media post and [a] news article with entirely false and spiteful accusations are making certain claims against me. My lawyers are following the official process and responding to the situation legally. I am grateful to all colleagues, friends, clients and well-wishers who reached out and extended their faith, trust and support at this time.”
Krishan Kumar, Blah and Thakur have also denied the allegations.
The Bandra police station refused to say anything in the matter on the plea that an investigation is underway.
