Actress and Trinamool Congress member of Parliament Mimi Chakraborty will play the protagonist in Mainak Bhaumik’s upcoming woman-centric film Mini.

Produced by television and film actress Sampurna Lahiri, Rahul Bhanja and MK Media, the film is set to go on the floors later this year.

Chakraborty and Bhaumik had their first interaction while working on Birsa Dasgupta’s Crisscross (2018), for which Bhaumik had written the script.

“Later he called me up during the lockdown and gave me a brief on this story," Chakraborty told The Telegraph, an English daily published from Kolkata. "I really like how the character belongs to today’s generation and yet has a lot of inclination towards family.”

Giving some more details, Chakraborty said a few twists and turns change the life of her character, who is independent and values relationships. Mini is also a story of becoming responsible and self-sufficient amidst challenges, she said.

“Working with Mainak should be fun as I have heard that he is very cool and easy-going," the actress said. "It’s a woman-oriented story, and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”

Pleased to work with Chakraborty at last, Bhaumik said, “Finally Mimi and I are collaborating on a picture that requires a lot of responsibility, and I am excited as it’s a fun, sweet, sad, melancholic film that deals with the value of responsibility.”

The rest of the cast has not been announced. Bhaumik will start shooting for the film after he finishes Ekannoborti, featuring Sauraseni Maitra, Alokananda Roy and Aparajita Adhya.
