Avijit Sen’s film Tonic will be released this Durga Puja. Starring Dev Adhikari and Paran Bandopadhyay, the light-hearted family drama was completed before the coronavirus pandemic reared its ugly head in the country last year.

Tonic features Shakuntala Barua, Biswanath Basu, Rajatava Dutta, Sujan Mukhopadhyay and Koneenica Banerjee. The film is Adhikari’s second project that will be released under the Bengal Talkies banner after Sanjhbati (2019).

Adhikari plays the titular character, who rejuvenates the retired septuagenarian Jaladhar Sen (Bandopadhyay) and brings colour to his relationship with his wife (Barua). Jaladhar’s authoritarian son makes it difficult for the aged couple to live life to the fullest. He and his wife (Banerjee), who are in charge of his parents' 49th wedding anniversary celebrations, expect them to be satisfied with just a small get-together.

Jaladhar eventually refuses to comply with his son’s diktats and decides to go on a foreign trip with the help of travel agent Tonic. Unfortunately, Jalandhar’s health issues prevent the couple from taking long trips. However, Tonic senses the couple's desperate urge to experience the bliss of youth once again and takes it upon himself to ensure that they have a good time.

In Sanjhbati too, Adhikari essayed the role a character, Chandu, who came to the aid of two aged characters, played by Soumitra Chatterjee and Lily Chakraborty.
