Indrani Chakraborty has commenced shooting for her debut film Chhaad, which is being produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).

Starring Paoli Dam, Rahul Banerjee and Rajnandini Paul, Chhaad, a realistic drama themed on freedom, will be shot extensively in Kolkata.

Chakraborty, who is excited about working with NFDC for her maiden project, said, “Chhaad literally means ‘terrace’, which signifies freedom and liberation. Our film emphasizes the need for personal space and internal freedom.

"Today when apartments are growing smaller and smaller and balconies are becoming a luxury, the need for some personal space close to nature is felt all the more. I sincerely feel that the viewers will be able to identify with the crisis that our protagonist goes through and the film will be widely accepted,” said the director.

Dam is excited to be associated with the esteemed institution that provided a platform for some of the most iconic filmmakers in the history of Bengali cinema. “It is indeed a pleasure associating with NFDC, I have grown up watching celebrated films over the years, especially those made by the Bengali legendary filmmakers Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Goutam Ghose, to name a few. Being part of such an esteemed institution where many legends have taken birth is an honour for me and I am truly looking forward to this project and hoping all our efforts pay off," she said.

Banerjee, who has been associated with theatre, said watching the art-house cinema has always been a learning experience for him.

Paul said he was overwhelmed. “I always believe in hard work and discipline and hope to keep up that balance and provide the best that is required from me,” the actress said.
