The Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, which will star Chiranjeevi, was launched in a close-knit function on Wednesday evening in Hyderabad.

The project marks the maiden collaboration between Chiranjeevi and director Mohan Raja. It was announced at the launch ceremony that SS Thaman has been roped in to compose the film's music.

Known for helming films such as Jayam (2002), Santhosh Subramaniyam (2008) and Thani Oruvan (2015), Mohan is returning to direct a Telugu film after two decades.

The shooting of the project is expected to commence in February. It is rumoured that Nayanthara has been signed to play Chiranjeevi’s sister in the movie. Her role was played by Manju Warrier in the original.

The Telugu remake of Lucifer was originally supposed to be directed by Sujeeth. However, he had to bow out of the project after he got married recently.

Lucifer, starring Mohanlal, marked the directorial debut of Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film emerged as one of the Malayalam film industry's biggest blockbusters.

Chiranjeevi is currently busy shooting for his upcoming Telugu film Acharya, in which he’s rumoured to be playing dual roles. The film is being directed by Koratala Siva.

The movie is centred on a middle-aged Maoist-turned-social reformer who launches a fight against the endowments department over misappropriation and embezzlement of temple funds and donations.
